I can truly appreciate your introspective side because a lot of artists today lack that kind of foresight.
I just really wanted to encourage my loved ones and people I’ve never met to have a conversation with themselves about, “Are you happy?” and “What is happiness?” and “Does it involve the validation of an outside party or is it something that’s truly inside of you at all times?” I’m happy I did it because I got a really great response and not just success in sales and stuff like that but more importantly, in the people who were listening to it.
I realized there’s so much in life that I can’t change and I don’t really have control over. Let them know why I was gone, what I’ve been going through, why I felt this was important to talk about now. Also, the fact that I had been away for so long, the only right move that I can imagine is to become completely introspective and have a conversation with the fans. That, multiplied with the fact that I changed my diet years ago and I just started to gain a new appreciation for every day that I was given. However, with so much news about murder, hate crimes, close relatives suffering through depression, that leads me to assess my own mental health. I don’t think I’ve ever hit rock bottom, to be quite honest with you. At what point do you remember hitting rock bottom, and at what point do you remember digging yourself out of that hole that you were in? You highlighted so many struggles in your life. Lloyd’s “ Tru” listening party was located at a lounge called Boogalou Atlanta. The album exposes a more vulnerable and mature side of Lloyd where he touches up on subjects such as family, his sister passing away and fatherhood.
On Friday, August 31st, he completed his official tracklist and solidified the 11 tracks with also another guest appearances by Curren$y. Tru was initially pitched as a 5-song EP on December 5th, 2016 including features from Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and 2 Chainz. Lloyd celebrated the release of his album, Tru at Boogalou Atlanta. New Orleans born, but Atlanta raised R&B singer, Lloyd blessed us with such a pleasant surprise, bringing us back into the groove with his latest album release “ Tru” on Friday, August 31st.
